At the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce 25th Annual Black History Celebration (BHC), on February 23, 2026, Community Relations Manager Barbara Graham had the honor of presenting the Chamber’s Founders Award to Clifton L. Johnson, a respected local businessman whose leadership helped establish and grow this meaningful city tradition.
In her remarks, Graham recognized Mr. Johnson’s longstanding commitment and the deep respect he has earned throughout the business community. “The Founders Award celebrates those whose early efforts created opportunities for generations to follow,” Graham said. “Cliff’s legacy is woven into the fabric of this celebration, and we are grateful for the foundation he helped build.”
Since the event’s inception, Torrance Refinery has proudly supported the Black History Celebration as a sponsor, with employees actively participating in and championing the event.
Reflecting on her own connection to the celebration, Graham shared, “On my second day at Torrance Refinery, I was asked to attend a BHC Committee meeting — my first introduction to the Chamber, and we have supported this important event ever since.”
Graham noted that presenting the Founders Award to Mr. Johnson was especially meaningful, as her years of Chamber involvement have helped to foster lasting relationships and strengthened company ties within the Torrance community.
