It was a great day for the 33rd Annual Kids Classic Golf Tournament, raising funds to support youth programs at @tsbymca Torrance Refinery is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the event, which brings together business partners, volunteers, and golfers to support Youth Advisory Council, Sleep Away Camp, Youth & Government, Youth Institute of Media Arts, and more! Ready, set, sail! Our volunteers had a blast mentoring students at @torranceusd Girls Cardboard Regatta. This annual event helps students develop teamwork, adaptability, and perseverance as they work together applying engineering principles to build a vessel and race across the pool without sinking. We’re proud to be the presenting sponsor of this fun and educational experience. Keynote speaker Heather Shohet, Clean Products Coordinator at Torrance Refinery, inspired students by sharing her career journey as an engineer. Student Inventors packed El Camino College for the California Invention Convention: Southern Region. Torrance Refining Company was the presenting sponsor of this annual event showcasing innovative inventions by students from across the region. Valerie Tse, Torrance Refinery Environmental & Process Safety Manager, delivered remarks and presented the Safety and Energy Awards to students. Congratulations to all the winners!
Employees from our Maintenance Department volunteered to share their career journey with inquisitive students at @magruder_torrance. Guillermo described a day in the life of a Torrance refinery electrician, and Martin talked about the various safety and maintenance roles he’s held at the refinery. We’re proud to support multiple @torranceusd programs such as Career Days, Girls in STEAM Cardboard Regatta, and California Invention Convention, to introduce students to different STEAM career paths to prepare them for a diverse and successful future!
We supported the @thevolunteercenter Operation Teddy Bear (OTB) program by reading to students and distributing literacy and school readiness backpacks at Edison Elementary. Our volunteers enjoyed interacting with enthusiastic first graders to encourage literacy, kindness, and volunteerism. OTB began 31 years ago and serves thousands of students annually.
