Many of us recall waking up to presents under the tree on Christmas morning, but for many struggling families, that’s not always possible, especially during a global pandemic that’s wreaked havoc on the economy. Enter the Salvation Army Torrance Corps Christmas Angel Tree Program.

This year, “giving trees” decked in sparkling ornaments and white Angel Tags brightened the Refinery offices as they offered employees an opportunity to help make the holidays a little brighter for children in our community. Each white “Angel” tag represented an underserved child’s wish list for Christmas. Torrance Refining employees, along with colleagues from Torrance Logistics Company and other PBF Energy western region employees, adopted 100 Angels, representing children whose families usually live at or below the federal poverty line.

For the Refinery’s Business Team Lead Josh Elliott, the Angel Tree program was a great opportunity to foster the true meaning of Christmas to his family. Josh shared, “I chose to participate because it’s nice to give back, especially where children are involved. I have two young children of my own and this is also a good opportunity to introduce them to the concept of giving outside of our immediate family and compassion for the less fortunate. They helped pick out the gifts with such excitement.”

Upon seeing all the donations for the Angels, Captain Harryette O’Brien of the Salvation Army shared, “The generosity of others is so overwhelming. We are so grateful for the Torrance Refinery’s partnership with this program year after year. Their employees demonstrate the true meaning of this holiday season – compassion for others and a sense of generosity to help spread joy to others. Thank you!”
