Just like your car or truck needs regular routine maintenance for optimal performance, so does the Torrance Refinery (Refinery), which typically runs 24 hours per day, seven days per week, year-in and year-out. As part of our commitment to operating safely, reliably, and environmentally responsibly, the Refinery conducts site maintenance in addition to the continuous preventive maintenance programs already in place.

Our highly skilled personnel plan and perform extensive maintenance events we call “Turnarounds,” during which we inspect, clean, and perform important maintenance on refinery equipment. Turnarounds require process units to be shut down and opened for inspection and work, which supports safe, reliable, continuous operation to provide the cleaner-burning transportation fuels our society relies on daily.

Our next Turnaround event is scheduled to begin in early January and last about 45-days. The work will be executed on both day and night shifts, with approximately 400-additional contract workers per shift, mostly affiliated with local Building and Construction Trade Unions, for a total that could reach 800 skilled contractors.

During this time, we will make every effort to minimize noise and light impacts during evening hours and overnight. You may notice increased traffic along West 190th Street during worker shift changes between 4:30/5 a.m. and again from 4:30 to 5 p.m.). A Torrance Police Department officer will be available to assist with traffic control.

We ask for your patience and understanding as we complete this important maintenance to support safe, reliable operations. If you have any questions, please call our Community Relations Department during regular business hours Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at (310) 212-1852, or the Refinery’s 24-Hour Community Hotline at (310) 505-3158 after business hours. Thank you.
