TORC representatives at the Y Golf Tournament

In May, the Torrance-South Bay YMCA (“Y”) held its annual “Send Kids to Camps Golf Tournament” with presenting sponsor Torrance Refining Company LLC (TORC). This year’s Tournament raised more than $140,000, the record for the most funds raised since the “Y” began the event 27-years ago.

Funds help the Y offer summer camp scholarships to families in need by providing opportunities for young people to participate in the organization’s programs.

Approximately 150+ golfers enjoyed the surprisingly sunny day at Los Verdes Golf Course after a rainy day forecast. Participants won prizes at some holes, experienced a fun activity of launching golf balls from a cannon instead of driving off a tee, and wrapped up the event with dinner highlighting the Y’s programs and positive impact in the community. Silent and live auctions raised an additional $10,000 that evening, thanks to in-kind donations from numerous local businesses.

TORC Coordination and Product Quality Supervisor Carl Ellett, who serves as a YMCA Board member and co-chaired the Y’s Golf Committee, said, “Working with this great group of people who are dedicated to helping families and young people have positive experiences is both remarkable and rewarding. My family benefited from Y camps, so it’s fulfilling to be able to give back in this way – thanks to our Company’s commitment to be a community partner, through both their sponsorship and volunteerism.”

This marks the third year TORC has served as presenting sponsor.
