Western Museum of Flight, located at Zamperini Airfield in Torrance, is hosting a celebrity lecture series once a month through November 2024. As the presenting sponsor, Torrance Refining Company is proud to bring notable speakers including pilots, aerospace experts, astronauts, and industry experts to share their experiences across different fields in this sector.
Since the 1930s, this refinery has been a pillar of support and supply for the aviation community in our region. Originally established as one of the South Bay’s earliest major industrial businesses in the 20th century, it made significant strides during WWII by pioneering a new process to produce super 100-octane aviation fuel for the U.S. Armed Forces. Post-war, the refinery’s role expanded further with the increasing importance of jet fuel for aircraft refueling at Los Angeles International Airport, continuing to serve the millions who rely on our regional hub for air travel.
