While many families consider Spring to be a time for enjoying nice weather outdoors, planting gardens, or spending time at local parks, for a number of local families Spring means time to “play ball” with the North Torrance Little League (NTLL).

NTLL is run by parent volunteers with the support of local businesses. Torrance Refining Company (TORC) is proud to be a member of the North Torrance community and pleased to be a NTLL supporter. TORC recognizes the valuable life lessons young athletes learn from team sports, such as the importance of teamwork and taking pride in their community; all while sharpening their athletic skills.

Unfortunately, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and County Safer at Home Orders prevented ball games from being played by keeping families indoors. Although the Spring ball season was cut short, TORC’s contributions will continue to benefit the young athletes and their families. NTLL took the downtime as an opportunity to improve ball park facilities, secure new equipment, and offer scholarships for kids undergoing financial hardships, using funds provided by sponsors such as TORC.

NTLL President Art Bonilla shared, “It was unfortunate to end our season due to COVID-19. We are grateful to Torrance Refining Company for their contribution. This contribution allows us to continue to help provide a safe and fun place for the kids to play. We hope to be back on the field when the time is right.”

Refinery manager Steve Steach commented, “Safety is at the heart of everything we do at the Torrance Refinery, so we are pleased to see that same value reflected by NTLL through its smart use of funds during this unprecedented time. We join the NTLL family in looking forward to seeing everyone back on the fields, enjoying fun sports-filled days in a safe environment.”

Our thanks to the NTLL parents and coaches for keeping their eye on safety, and our best wishes to all the NTLL athletes for a fun and safe season.  Play ball!
