Torrance Refinery continues its support for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. Earlier this year, the company sponsored the 20th Annual STEM Career Conference organized by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The conference was held at Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science in Long Beach.
The refinery’s Compliance Coordinator Nancy Benitez, who is president of the company’s Society of Women Engineers employee support group, represented the company at the conference. The 250 middle school girls listened to an inspirational speaker before participating in two workshops introducing them to various STEM careers such as engineering, aerospace, and medical professions. Organizers aim to inspire and encourage these young girls to pursue further education and explore opportunities in STEM-related fields. To volunteer or learn more about AAUW, click here.
