The Marine Mammal Care Center Los Angeles (MMCC) is the only year-round marine mammal rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles County and one of the busiest centers in the country, admitting 500 patients per year on average. The Center rehabilitates sea lions, northern elephant seals, Pacific harbor seals, and northern fur seals stranded on California beaches due to illness, injury, or malnutrition, while also promoting preservation of marine mammals through education, research, and partnerships.

Torrance Refinery has supported MMCC for many years, donating thousands of dollars to the Center each year and organizing employee volunteer activities. In recognition of the Refinery’s on-going philanthropy and support, MMCC presented Torrance Refinery with the 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility Award during the organization’s Annual Gala on October 13, 2018. During the event, the Refinery surprised the Center with an additional $2,500 donation to fund needed ultrasound equipment at the facility.

Barbara Graham, Torrance Refining Company LLC Community Relations Manager, attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the company and its employee volunteers. “Our Refinery employees respect, admire, and support the mission of the MMCC, because they care about the positive impact we make through our community involvement,” said Graham. “We sincerely appreciate the Marine Mammal Care Center recognizing the Refinery for supporting the important work the Center performs as stewards of these wonderful animals.”
