LEAD students and administrators with TORC employees during Science Day at the Torrance Refinery.

Torrance Refining Company LLC (TORC) hosted a group of 26 Torrance Unified School District sophomores from all four Torrance high schools (Torrance, North, West and South) on December 12, 2017 for “Science Day,” as part of the “Leadership, Exploration and Development” (LEAD) program run through the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce.

This seven-month program provides local students with the opportunity to visit local businesses, educational institutions, and non-profits throughout the South Bay to help them explore career options.

For those who visited the Refinery, “Science Day” provided the students with the opportunity to meet employees who shared career and leadership advice with the students, focusing on science professions and career pathways. In addition, the students learned about petroleum refining and the Torrance Refinery, and took a tour of the plant.
