Are you prepared to help yourself or your neighbors in the event of a disaster? Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training aims to teach citizens crucial skills. CERT is an all-risk, all-hazard training course where members learn basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.
This training is made possible by sponsorship from the Torrance Refining Company, which has supported this initiative for many years in partnership with Torrance Fire Department (TFD) to foster community safety and preparedness. Free CERT training is taught year-round by TFD and the city of Los Angeles. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate, and a backpack filled with emergency supplies, sponsored by Torrance Refining Company.
TFD shared the following comment with the Refinery from a Torrance couple who completed CERT training: We appreciate all the time and effort that went into making this a useful, practical and inspiring experience. Having actual firefighters teach the class was very helpful because they were talking about things that they actually do in real life. Quick triage with 30-2-Can Do is a fantastic mnemonic. We had never seen or performed cribbing before, and although hopefully we will never need to do it, at least we know how.
